Our history

The Almanac of the Future as a communication platform was born out of deep reflection on the climate crisis and its roots in the current development model. As we educated ourselves and delved deeper into the UN climate negotiations, we realized that the real transformation of our society requires a rethinking of the approach to living for well-being and the common good.

We believe that paradigm shifts begin at the grassroots of society. This motivated us to seek out and document real and inspiring stories from the local level that show transformations and changes in current development paradigms that prioritize care for life and the common good.

Through the Almanac of the Future, we make these “motivating experiences” visible, convinced that community action that promotes local transformations is the key to building a future with a future.

We document real-life stories that inspire and demonstrate how a better future is possible. Through these “motivational experiences,” we highlight tangible examples of transformation in the present.
We currently work in the Andean region, which includes Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, and are expanding into Mesoamerica and Mexico. We also selectively cover south-north interdependencies.
Our documentaries are x-rays of the bets made by people, communities and local collectives, demonstrating possible transformations and challenging conventional schemes. Through these experiences, we demonstrate that another world is possible.

Through our content, we provide tools for those who visit our website and participate in our conversations to express their opinions and make informed decisions about their own transitions to a better future, contributing to the common good.
We offer inspiring stories, published as journalistic articles called “Motivating Experiences,” which always conclude with calls to action and positive messages that motivate a paradigm shift in development. We also promote debate and analysis on key issues for a better future through multimedia: podcasts, conversations, and other events.

Monika Hesse

Monika is an agroecologist and founder of the Natural Sanctuary of Consciousness Cosmogenesis in Restrepo, Colombia.
Como agroecóloga y fundadora de Cosmogénesis me uní al Consejo de Complicidad por la profunda sintonía entre nuestros objetivos. Ambas iniciativas buscan visibilizar alternativas de vida que desafíen el modelo de desarrollo convencional. Ante la urgencia de la crisis socioambiental es vital compartir experiencias exitosas aunque a menudo invisibilizadas para inspirar a quienes desean construir un futuro diferente. Considero fundamental el rol del consejo como espacio de intercambio de experiencias y conocimientos para impulsar al Almanaque del Futuro.

Nicole Maron

Nicole es periodista y escritora suiza residente en Perú, se dedica a investigar temas socioambientales y políticos como la minería, la deforestación, derechos humanos y alternativas de desarrollo.
Como miembro de diferentes redes y grupos de trabajo en Europa y en América Latina quiero apoyar a promover el intercambio y el aprendizaje mutuo entre Sur y Norte para impulsar cambios reales desde la sociedad civil. En este contexto la iniciativa «Almanaque del Futuro» me parece importante no solo porque se cuentan historias de esperanza sino también porque es un espacio de debate donde se juntan personas de diferentes contextos y experiencias para dar insumos para un futuro más sostenible y más amable.

Constantin B.

Constantin es un geógrafo que trabaja sobre la problemática del extractivismo y las transiciones energéticas en América Latina. Desde Alemania colabora con el Consejo de Complicidad para impulsar el Almanaque del Futuro.
Formo parte del Consejo de Complicidad para apoyar el importante objetivo del Almanaque de Futuro de desenterrar tesoros en forma de historias de éxito y dar visibilidad a personas inspiradoras y apoyarlas en sus compromisos de cambiar el mundo. Necesitamos ideas y visiones de cómo puede ser y de que forma una vida plena sin discriminación y marginación lejos de los paradigmas dominantes y de la lógica del aumento crecimiento y de la valorización económica.

Gregorio's work in the Mezquital Valley in Mexico is an inspiring example of how innovation in energy technologies can revitalize indigenous millenary agriculture and offer solutions to global climate challenges.
Participo en el Consejo de Complicidad porque estoy comprometido con revivir y enriquecer prácticas ancestrales y demostrarlas en el Almanaque del Futuro. Mi motivación surge desde mi preocupación por el futuro de nuestros hijos en este planeta y el deseo de aprender de otros proyectos innovadores liderados por personas en Latinoamérica y diversas partes del mundo.

Javier Carrera

Javier Carrera es permacultor de larga trayectoria y uno de los fundadores y líderes de la Red de Guardianes de Semilla en Ecuador.
Las historias del Almanaque del Futuro marcan un camino de esperanza en un mundo donde la cotidianidad nos puede llevar a la desesperación. Es una colección de experiencias prácticas que nos inspiran a construir mejores versiones del futuro.

Javier is a sociologist and facilitator with a solid background in peace processes, is a valuable companion of the Complicity Council from Colombia.
El Almanaque de Futuro me atrae por su capacidad de enfocar la mirada en las señales prometedoras que ya presagian un futuro mejor desde el presente. Me gusta porque permite concentrarme en las perspectivas esperanzadoras que ya están germinando y que nos invitan a soñar con un mañana más brillante. Me cautiva Almanaque de Futuro porque me brinda una ventana hacia un mañana lleno de posibilidades donde las semillas de la esperanza ya están floreciendo.

María Fernanda Montoya Rodríguez

María Fernanda is a social communicator and theater artist; she is currently an artistic and content weaver for the regeneration movement Visión Suroeste in Colombia.

Michelle Ruíz

Michelle has studied social sciences and has traveled through different cultures and continents, from her refreshing expertise she accompanies the Complicidad Council from Ecuador.

Stefan Tuschen

Stefan has studied Latin American regional sciences, works in MISEREOR's Latin America department and accompanies the Complicity Council from Germany.
¿Mi participación en el Consejo de Complicidad? Como me gusta ir a las raíces, parto del origen de las palabras 'cómplice' y 'complicidad'. Hoy día suelen ser usadas casi exclusivamente con una connotación negativa. Derivadas del latín 'complex' en primer lugar significan alguien o algo 'estrechamente relacionado'. El o la cómplice demuestra solidaridad o camaradería respecto a un asunto. Complicidad es su actitud que consta de un conocimiento íntimo entre personas o de algo oculto para lxs demás. Aplicado al Almanaque del Futuro, para mi significa expresar mi solidaridad con y mi apoyo a la iniciativa y un compromiso de aportar a fortalecer las relaciones entre lxs cómplices y demás personas involucradas. Para que juntos difundamos lo que sigue oculto para muchxs”.

Olga Lucía Castillo

Olga Lucía, socióloga con muchos años de docencia e investigación universitaria, activista comprometida con un futuro con futuro.

Marcelo Waschl

Marcelo was born in Bolivia and earned his degree in architecture in Aachen, Germany, where he now lives. For over three decades, he worked at Misereor as an urban development specialist in the Latin America department. He continues to support institutions through dialogue, consultation, expertise, and virtual exchanges.
